Keiichiro Shibuya is the graduate of the Tokyo National University of the Arts in music composition. He has founded the ATAK record label, and he is the author of The Third Term Music research project. His project is aimed at the facet where the structure of the sound and its timber are not opposed to each other but rather combine in the new principle of creating the musical compositions. ATAK shares love to mathematical formulas with the German label Raster-Noton, as well as to the merging of technology and art. However, ATAK avoids turning Techno into a fetish. Applying the theory of complex systems and cellular automata, the label concentrates on the integrated studying of the sound qualities. With this purpose in mind, they actively cooperate with such researchers as Takashi Ikegami. ATAK’s numerous releases present the unique opportunity to have a peek into the scientific research laboratory in the atom of sound.
